Bell’s Blog Feb 10-16

this week in Dragons history, February 10 – 16

February 10,2012….the Dragons score four powerplay goals in a
5-2 win over Olds at the Arena. In this game, rookie Ty Hand fell
awkwardly into the boards behind the Dragons net. He was prone
on the ice for an extended period of time and was taken from the
Arena in an ambulance. Thankfully he was okay, and recovered from
the fall to return to the ice this season, although he did not play any
more games last season as a precaution.

February 12,2006….rookie Dion Knelsen rifled the hat-trick on
Reese St. Goddard as the Dragons stopped Lloydminster 5-3 at the
Arena. The first of Dion's three was his 30th goal of the season,
as he joined Derek Werenka in the 30-goal club. Werenka reached the
mark earlier in the 2005-06 season.

February 13,2011….”the Train” tied a record for Dragon defensemen
when he blasted his 12th goal of the season past Zach Weissback of
Drayton Valley to open the scoring in a 3-1 win over the Thunder.
Justin Tateson's goal tied him with Graham Klassen for the single season
record by a Dragons defenseman. Klassen set the record in the
2007-08 season.

February 13,2012….the AJHL recognized Ryan Bloom, naming the
smooth Dragons forward the league's “player-of-the-week” last year.
#41 became the second Dragon to win the weekly award, joining Cole
Cheveldave who was player-of-the-week in December of 2010.

February 14,2012….#9 played in #100. Sam Lawson played his
100th career game as a Dragon in a 4-3 shoot-out loss against
Canmore last year. Sam was in his third season with the Dragons,
and became the 37th Dragon to play 100 games. His time in the
valley was marked by two serious knee injuries. He was traded prior
to this season to Grande Prairie for Ryan Aasman.

February 15,2011….”the Little Lion”, former captain Rob Geddes,
joined the 100 game club, becoming the 30th member in a 4-1 win
at Camore.

February 16,2008….5 years ago two Dragon snipers joined the elite
20-goal club, as both Cam Lamoureux and rookie Erik Slemp reached
the mark in a 7-1 drubbing of the Canucks at the Arena. Lamoureux
scored his goal on James Reid; Slemp beat Aaron Dell for his 20th.

February 16,2012….Ryan Bloom capped his 2011-12 season by
scoring a point in his last eight regular season games. #41 was red hot
at the conclusion of the regular season, scoring 6-7=13 in his last eight
games. The streak is the seventh best all-time for the Dragons. Ryan
led the Dragons in scoring last season and leads the club again this
year.
