this week in Dragons history, February 03 – 09
Feb.04,2005….defenseman Kaylan Wiancko becomes the 6th Dragon to
play 100 career games, suiting up in a 3-0 loss at Olds.
Feb.04,2011….rookie goaltender Cole Cheveldave turns aside 41 shots to
blank the Camrose Kodiaks 1-0 at the Arena. It was his second shutout of
the season, and his second in three games. #38 went on to be named AJHL
rookie-of-the-year for 2010-11. He is currently in his second stellar season
in the Western Hockey League with the Kamloops Blazers. The win over the
Kodiaks was the Dragons third in a row, which was a season high in 10-11.
Feb.04,2012….Drumheller native and Dragon spark-plug Josh Kluck played his
100th game in the orange and black. #13 became the 36th player to reach the
century plateau. He was held off the scoresheet in a 4-0 loss at Grande Prairie.
Feb.05,2005….the Dragons nipped the Canucks 4-3 in overtime at the Arena,
earning their 20th win of the season. This marked the first time the Dragons
won twenty games in a season. In their first AJHL season the club won a
respectable 19 games for a new franchise. In 2004-05 the Dragons would
finish with 23 wins.
Feb.07,2008….a pair of all-time great Dragons were once again important
cogs in a big road win for the Dragons. Trevor Smyth scored at 19.19 of the
third period, the only goal of the game in a nail-biting 1-0 win in Olds.
#25 got his 20th goal of the season on Marc Boulanger. #27 attained a
milestone that night, also. Graham Klassen didn't get a scoring point in
his 100th career game as a Dragon. Klassen was the 19th Dragon to play
at least 100 games.
Feb.07.2009….the Dragons lost 5-0 in Camrose. Justin Faryna was held off the
scoresheet, bringing the third best goal-scoring streak in Dragons history to a
close. #20 had scored a goal in five straight games, getting 6-1=7 in that time,
from January 25 through February 04. Faryna would end that 2008-09 season
with 28 goals, third best total in team history.
Feb.09,2007….a couple of very nice milestones reached as the Dragons edged
Drayton Valley 2-1 at the Arena. Jonathan LaRose made 36 saves to get the victory
in goal, the 50th victory of his Dragons' career. #1 is the club leader in career wins,
among a handful of team records he holds.
Head coach Rob Hegberg also got his 50th win in the game, the only Dragons coach
to reach that plateau. It came in his 113th game behind the bench as head coach.
The Dragons record under Rob at that time was 50-48-15.
