Bobcats Take a Bite out of Dragons

Drumheller finished their three game in three day road trip on Sunday afternoon in Lloydminster.

They took on a Lloydminster team that has turned things around from earlier in the season. The Lloydminster Bobcats were coming off a two game losing streak this weekend. They had lost in Fort McMurray on Thursday and Sherwood Park on Friday. Drumheller was coming off two losses as well in Fort McMurray and Bonnyville. One team would end their streak today and Drumheller was hoping it would be them.

It was a good first period for both squads. Both teams had their opportunity to score but both goaltenders had a stellar start to their game. The Dragons had a power play chance midway through the period and another that carried over to the second but could not solve Bobcat goalie Nick Saunders. The Bobcats out shot the Dragons 7-5 but the score remained 0-0 after 1.

In the second, Lloydminster got on the board with an early power play goal from Daniel Hilsendager to make it 1-0 Bobcats. Drumheller thought they had tied the game when Nate Keeley had scored but the goal was waived off as the referee determined that Brett Wieschorster was in the crease. The momentum changed after the goal as later in the period, Hilsendager tallied another to put Drumheller down 2-0. Drumheller had their chances but the shots were coming from the perimeter and Saunders could see them all the way. The Bobcats out shot the Dragons 11-9 in the period and lead 2-0 after 2.

In the third, the Bobcats added to their lead as Leyson Coleman got behind our defense and scored on Dane Dow to make it 3-0 Lloydminster. The Bobcats added another just over 8 minutes in when Zach Kaiser scored on a rebound to make it 4-0. Lloydminster thought they had scored a fifth goal but it was waive off due to the tip in by a high stick. Drumheller had a 5 on 3 power play with just under 5 minutes to go but could not score. The got another opportunity on the man advantage with just over 2 minutes remaining and Tyson Scott scored off a rebound from a shot from Jordan Taupert. The final score was 4-1 Lloydminster.
