Cody Young Committed to the University of Alberta-Augustana

The Drumheller Dragons are very pleased to announce that 1996-born forward Cody Young has committed to the University of Alberta – Augustana for the 2017-2018 season. The “Vikings” compete in the Alberta College Athletics Conference Men’s Hockey League.

Young was acquired from the Spruce Grove Saints in November of the 2016/17 season. In 58 Alberta Junior Hockey League games played, the Saskatoon native accumulated 26 goals, 23 assists for 49 points and 44 penalty minutes. Over the course of Cody’s junior hockey career, he spent time with the Kindersley Klippers, Spruce Grove Saints, and the Dragons for career totals of 70 goals, 94 assists, 164 points and 209 minutes in penalties. Cody was also selected to represent Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge during the 2014-15 season.

Dragons Head Coach Kevin Hasselberg commented “Cody had a tremendous junior career contributing to the success of the three Junior Programs he played for. He was instrumental leading the Kindersley Klippers into the play-offs in both of his seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playing 19 post season games. He also played a huge role helping Drumheller make the play-offs during an injury filled season. He was a player that left everything he had on the ice and will be a valuable addition to the Augustana Vikings Men’s Hockey Program.”

University of Alberta Augustana has a wealth of Alberta Junior Hockey League alumni on its current roster which includes former Drumheller Dragons Cody Fiala and Curtis Skip. Other players include Evan Warmington (Bonnyville Pontiacs), Paul Lovsin (Camrose Kodiaks), Lucas Biencsh (Lloydminster Bobcats/ Spruce Grove Saints), and Jeff Lorenz (Lloydminster Bobcats).

The entire Drumheller Dragons organization would like to congratulate Cody on his accomplishment of moving onto the University of Alberta Augustana, and thank him and his family for their dedication and leadership this past season.
