Deadline Week A Busy One For The Dragons

January 10th-Drumheller, AB: It was a very busy trade deadline week for the Drumheller Dragons with multiple moves made prior to the CJHL deadline Friday afternoon. 

Earlier this week the Dragons dealt 20-year-old goaltender Colin Ahern to the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the MJHL for a PDF. Ahern was acquired earlier this season from the Soo Thunderbirds (NOJHL) and appeared in 12 games for the Dragons. The Dragons also acquired 1999-born goaltender Chris Curr from the Fort McMurray Oil Barons for Future Considerations. Curr, a native of St.Albert, AB, spent the past 3 seasons with the Oil Barons (43-24-8) and bolstered a 2.80 GAA & .911 SV%. In 17 post-season games with the Barons, Curr had a 2.58 GAA & .918 SV%

January 10th was a busy one for the Dragons with 4 roster transactions taking place on the deadline day. Dragons defenseman Steven Zonneveld signed with the Regina Pats (WHL) and returned back to the club he spent the 2018/2019 season with. Zonneveld appeared in 27 games on the Dragons blue line this year and registered 11 points.

The Dragons dealt 2nd year forward Roc Truman (01′) to the Bonnyville Pontiacs (AJHL) for Future Considerations. Truman, who skated in 79 games as a Dragon, had 7 goals and 22 assists in 28 GP this year.

Adding to the Dragons forward group, the team signed 2002-born Peyton McKenzie. Peyton spent the start of the 19’/20′ season with the Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL) where he appeared in 21 games. In 2018’/19′ he registered 44 points in 27 games with the OHA Edmonton Prep club.

The final addition of the day was former Dragons goaltender Daniel Allin, who returned from the USHL earlier this week. Allin, who played 20 games for the Dragons in 2018’/19′, spent the start of the year with the Tri-City Storm (USHL). Allin was added to the Dragons roster and will be part of the goalie trio for the remainder of the season.
