Drumheller continued their home stand on Saturday night as they took on the Bonnyville Pontiacs. Bonnyville currently sits 5th in the Viterra AJHL North Division.
This is the final game of the Pontiacs 4 game road trip in 5 days. The Dragons are coming off a strong victory over the Lloydminster Bobcats last night. Tonights game was also Parent Appreciation Night and the home team did not want to disappoint Moms and Dads in attendance.
Drumheller got an early power play in the first period and capitalized. Slater Dykema, who had just returned from a long term injury, scored his first of the season from Troy Dudley and Jordan Taupert. Slater Dykema Goal Nov 25 Photo courtesy of Broken Curfew Photography.
Both teams had some great chances in the period. Drumheller added to their lead late in the first when Jordan Taupert scored his 14th of the year from Brady Risk and Blake Kleiner. The Pontiacs out shot the Dragons in the period 11 – 9 but Drumheller took the 2 – 0 lead into the intermission.
The second period was similar to the first. Both teams had pressure at different times of the period and both goaltenders kept the puck out. That was until 14:48 when Bonnyville got on the board. Kash Rasmussen scored from Garin Butler. The period wrapped up with Drumheller still leading 2 – 1. Drumheller lead in the shot totals as well 24 – 20.
The third was non stop action on both ends of the ice. Dane Dow made an amazing glove save to keep it a one goal game while on the penalty kill. Drumheller had their chances as well but Bonnyville goaltender Sandro Silvestre did what he could to keep his team in the game. There were no goals scored in the third so the final score was 2 – 1 Dragons. Drumheller out shot Bonnyville 34 – 30 in the game.
It was a physical game between these two teams, almost like a rivalry game you may see between Drumheller and Brooks. Quite an entertaining game for the 497 fans in the stands.
