Drumheller, AB: September 14, 2018. The Drumheller Dragons are pleased to announce the leadership group for the 2018/19 season. With the new season set to get under way against rival Brooks Bandits, 3rd year veteran forward Markus Boguslavsky will lead the team as the newly appointed Captain. Together with Boguslavsky, Jordan Taupert, Brayden Nicholetts, and Bradley Stonnell will be alternate captains. Brett Edwards, Hunter Virostek, Kaden Hanas, and Dawson Bruneski will make up the Dragons Leadership team.
Boguslavsky is now entering his third season with the Dragons. The Calgary Alberta product served the team as an alternate captain last season and takes over this year from graduated defenseman Andrew Kartusch. “Markus has tremendous leadership characteristics” says Head Coach Kevin Hasselberg. “He has earned the respect of the dressing room leading with integrity and valuing hard work, relentless preparation, and common unity.”
Working together with Boguslavsky during the 2018-19 season will be a group of players with unique leadership qualities and shared respect amongst the team. Jordan Taupert is the most experienced of that group. Closing in on 300 games played in the AJHL, the Medicine Hat product is expected to lead the Dragons offensively. Taupert has already contributed more than 170 points in the AJHL and will be looked upon this season to lead the offensive charge. Brayden Nicholetts will also be relied upon offensively combined with his competitiveness and intensity. The third year forward from Spruce Grove Alberta leads with toughness, instilling confidence in his teammates. Stonnell is entering his third season with the Dragons and first as an alternate captain. The Surrey British Columbia product will lead with his passion, skills, and creativity. His calming demeanor and poise under pressure will lead through adversity. Dawson Bruneski is a total team player. The Camrose Alberta product changed positions last season from a forward to a defenseman and will play in any role to help the team succeed. His selflessness is a characteristic that will bring the team together and build common unity. Kaden Hanas is larger than life. His energy and enthusiasm are contagious and will bring fans and teammates out of their seats. Hanas respects everyone and leads by the golden rule. His physical play and total love for the game will unite a community. Hunter Virostek is entering his third season with the Dragons, all three served as the starter. The Turner Valley product values hard work and once again will be one of the hardest working players on the team. Virostek will lead the defensive charge and will be one of the top goalies in Junior A Hockey. Brett Edwards is entering his fourth and final season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. The Grande Prairie native combines skill and power in his play. He will lead by example on and off the ice and keeps the game in a positive perspective.
