On Monday, November 28th, the Drumheller Dragons welcomed Boedy Shields as the new Director of Operations for the organization. Shields is excited to be joining the Dragons. “It’s super exciting for me. Working all over Canada, in Ontario and BC, to finally come home back to Alberta and be able to work for such a great and respected organization with the Dragons, is an awesome opportunity. I’m excited to get started and think that I can do some good things on and off the ice.”
With the role of Director of Operations, Shields will be involved with both sided of the hockey team, hockey operations, and administration. He looks forward to the challenge. Shields has been involved in junior hockey before joining the Dragons. “I recently graduated from Brock University in Ontario, from the Sport Management program. It is coined by Kyle Dubas (GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs) who was a graduate of that program as well, so kind of following in his steps. While I was out there, I was doing some scouting in the Ontario Junior Hockey League with the Toronto Patriots and then I was in BC working with the Coquitlam Express of the BCHL. I’ve kind of been all over and then this opportunity came up and was super excited to jump on it.”
Changes at the Dragons games will not be coming instantly but Shields, who hails from Didsbury, will be bringing his ideas to the table. “It will be implemented over the next season or two seasons. I think we are going to be able to do some fun things with game day experiences, some marketing stuff, and then Dragons fans are really going to be able to tell, in a couple of years from now, the improvements that we made both on and off the ice. I’m super excited for that and I think this organization has a bright future.”
His first Dragons game day experience will be this upcoming weekend with two games at home and one on the road. Drumheller hosts Olds on Friday night at 7 PM. Saturday night is the Telus Teddy Bear Toss against the Canmore Eagles with all of the stuffed animals going to the Salvation Army when the Dragons score their first goal. Drumheller is then on the road Sunday afternoon In Blackfalds.
