Dragons Battle Kodiaks to One Goal Defeat
Drumheller continued their two game road trip on Saturday as they headed up to Camrose to take on the Camrose Kodiaks. The Dragons lead in the season series 2 games to 1. Drumheller is coming off a loss to the Grizzlys last night. The Kodiaks beat the Bandits on Friday night.
The Kodiaks opened up the scoring in the first when Brock Bremer scored from Jacob Kendall and Matt Dykstra at 6:24. They added to their lead near the end of the first when Matt Dystra scored from Brock Bremer and Jacob Kendall. Drumheller had their chances in the period but there was not much flow to the hockey game. Camrose out shot Drumheller 15 – 14 and lead 2 – 0 after one.
There must have been some good discussion in the dressing room in the first intermission, because the Dragons came out with some intensity. The Dragons got on the board at 9:44 when Brett Edwards scored his 8th of the year from Brady Risk and Tyler Kreklewich to make the score 2 – 1 Kodiaks. Later in the period, Drumheller tied it up when Kaden Hanas sniped a snap shot from the right circle from Nate Keeley.
Drumheller out shot Camrose in the period 9 – 8. The shots were tied at 23 a piece and the score was tied at 2.
In the third, Drumheller continued their strong play but could not solve goalie Griffin Bowerman. Camrose took the lead at 4:08 when Jacob Kendall scored the eventual game winner unassisted. Drumheller thought they had tied it up when a shot from Jordan Taupert went in under the cross bar and came back out. The goal judge did not see it go in and neither did the four officials on the ice. The Dragons tried to pull Hunter Virostek but received a penalty with less than two minutes left. Drumheller out shot Camrose 38 – 31 but fell 3 – 2.
