Dragons Beat Canucks

In a game where other than personal goals for dragons players this game in some ways meant very little in the standings as the Dragons have 4th place wrapped up, but for the Calgary Canucks this game and their remaining games mean everything as they are fighting for their lives to make the playoffs but it would be the Dragons who would skate away with a very hard fought battle 3-2.

Coach Curran had this to say following the game, ” As for this game meaning anything in the standings it would have no impact for us going up or down in the standings but inĀ  this game we were going to be tested against a team that was going to play desperate hockey and, in a way, playoff hockey and what a great test this would be for us and we responded well.”

First period, on the opening shift, the Canucks would score first and for 10 minutes would control the game. The Dragons would play much better the last 10 minutes but the Canucks goalie made make several key stops and the period ended 1-0 for Calgary.

Second period was a complete reversal as the Dragons came out strong and scored 3 unanswered goals forcing Calgary's coach to call a time out. The time out made an impact and the Canucks had several key scoring chances but the Dragons goalie (Johnny Hogue) was up to the task and the score would end up 3-1 for the Dragons as both teams headed to there locker rooms.

Third period saw the Dragons once again come out and control most of the third but with several minutes left the Canucks scored to make it 3-2. However, the Dragons defence played strong and the score would end up in favor of the Dragons

.
“It was a very entertaining game to watch 2 teams compete hard for 60 minutes said Coach Curran, and this will give our boys a taste of what the playoffs will be like”
It was also a special night in honoring the Drumheller Miners and all that they have brought to this great game of hockey!!! Thank you!!

Next home game will be next Friday, February 27th at 7:30 against the Calgary Mustangs.
