The Drumheller Dragons hosted the Canmore Eagles last night in Drumheller; this would be veteran Ethan James’ first game of the season after sustaining an injury during training camp. James would center Chynoweth and Mappin which resulted in a good performance by all three.
After a week off the Dragons came out strong in the first period, with a goal scored by Connor Boyd and another two by Ryan Chynoweth to take a 3-1 advantage into the locker room after the first.
Coach Curran on the play in the first period, “It was good to see the boys come out with a purpose as a team, we have worked hard all week on structure and we took a good first step last night.”
Second period action saw Drumheller up two more points after a goal each by Levi Wunder and Slater Dykema ending the period 5-2 in favour of the home team.
The Eagles who had just beaten the Dragons last weekend in Canmore would fight back in the third scoring one goal to make it a 5-3 final. Mappin had a 4 point night and the James, Mappin and Chynoweth line could have had several more but Canmore's goalie stood up to the challenge.
Coach Curran “It was a good night for us and for the first time we played as a team and we showed some positive steps in the right direction. We have a ways to go yet but it was a good beginning!”
