Dragons Dominate and Move Onto Second Round

The Drumheller Dragons are moving on to the second round after a 5-1 win last night in Olds.

This series was one that most hockey people would have thought might go the distance against a team that had the Dragons number in the regular season. However it would be the Dragons who would come out strong and except for several minutes in game one the Dragons would never trail the Grizzlys.

Keys in the series are always the same, goaltending and special teams and the Dragons dominated in these areas.

Curtis Skip has played very well in allowing just over 1 goal a game for the series. The power play was just over 20 percent and probably the biggest factor was how the Dragons penalty kill allowed no goals against the number 1 power play in the league.

Coach Curran had this to say. “We felt coming into this series that we had to find a way to shut down their power play and the boys in front of Curtis did the things they needed to do (shot blocking). We played some very good hockey and we needed to get this win as we did not want to give Olds any life.”

The Dragons will be off until Friday, March 13th and then on the road to their next opponent who as of today is to be determined.
