Dragons Fall One Game Short of South Final

Drumheller, AB: After a season of so many ups and downs, the Drumheller Dragons have fallen just short of reaching the AJHL South Division Final after a game seven series loss to the Blackfalds Bulldogs.

The Dragons saw a late regular season rally to clinch a third place finish in the South Division after two big back-to-back wins of the Okotoks Oilers. After a first round victory over the Canmore Eagles, which saw Dragons captain Sam Simard score the overtime winner in game six, the Dragons faced off against the Blackfalds Bulldogs in round two. After taking the split on the road for games one and two of the series, the Dragons achieved big home wins in games three and four in front of packed crowds at the Memorial Arena. Unfortunately, the Dragons dropped the next three games and saw their season come to an end in game seven.

Despite falling just short of the AJHL South Division Final, the Drumheller Dragons saw a community rally around them like no other. Between packed crowds at the Memorial Arena, a self-named student section called the “Rink Rats”, and police escorts out of town for the team bus, it was a tremendous season full of memorable moments. A special thank you goes out to the community of Drumheller for their tremendous support all season long!

We would also like to congratulate all of the Dragons graduating 20-year-old players on outstanding junior careers. They brought valuable leadership and experience to the team and played critical roles in the success of this organization all season long. These players include Sam Simard, Ty Whitford, Ben Christian, Garrett Fuller, Noah Danielson and Caleb Willms. We wish them all the best moving forward in their careers!
