Dragons Fall Short in Whitecourt

The Drumheller Dragons finished off their three games in three days northern road trip on Sunday with
a game in Whitecourt on Sunday afternoon. Drumheller was coming off a loss to the Grande Prairie on Saturday and Whitecourt was coming off a win at home against the Calgary Canucks.

The game started slowly for both teams and not much happened in the first five minutes. Drumheller picked up their play later in the period but were unable to score. Whitecourt scored at 14:09 of the first , when Stevie Bryant scored from Ben Evenish and Noah Tooke. Drumheller out shot Whitecourt 15 – 9 in the period but Whitecourt took the 1 – 0 lead into the dressing room.

In the second, Whitecourt increased their lead at 8:24 when Easton Haygarth scored from Hayden Clayton to make it 2 – 0 Wolverines. Whitecourt added to their lead with 3:12 left in the period when Chase Haygarth scored from Easton Haygarth and Hayden Clayton. The period ended with Whitecourt up 3 – 0 and leading in the shots on goal as well 24 – 21.

The Dragons opened it up early in the third period when they scored thier first of the game at 1:44. Joren Patenaude scored his fifth of the year from Dawson Bruneski to make the score 3 – 1 Wolverines. Drumheller got another one 1:13 later when Tyler Kreklewich scored his sixth from Josh Bishop. Drumheller outplayed Whitecourt for the majority of the period but Whitecourt scored at 7:11 to restore the two goal lead. Former Olds Grizzly Ryley Smith scored from Tyr Thompson and Vincent Beaudry. Final score Wolverines 4 and Dragons 2
