DRAGONS HEAD TO HANNA TO FACE EAGLES

Town of Hanna Host Dragons Win

The Dragons who are behind the Eagles in the standings faced off in Hanna in front of a loud crowd and they did not let their supporters down as they went on to beat Canmore 6-3 in an action packed game.

In the first the Eagles dominated most of the period and would be the first on the board but Dragons Matt Muzyka would score on a power play on a great pass from Clint Filbrandt to tie the game at one apiece. If not for Dragons goalie Xavier Burghardt the score at the end of the first may have been a lot different than tied 1-1.

The Dragons picked up the pace in the second period but again Canmore would take the lead to make it 2-1 however Drumheller would keep the pressure on and Evan Rochowiak would tie the game several minutes later. Shortly after the Dragons would take the lead on a nice goal by Rhett Kingston and it would be 3-2 heading into the third period.

Drumheller would continue their strong play into the third and both teams put the pressure with their goalies standing tall. The Eagles with just over 6 minutes left would take advantage of a power play and score to tie the game at three. It would be Levi Wunder several seconds later that would get a lucky bounce and once again the Dragons would be up a goal. Drumheller would continue their momentum and add two more on the power play with goals by Isaac Schacher and Slater Dykema. This would be Dykema’s first game after being out for over a month due to an upper body injury.  The Dragons would go on to a 6-3 victory.

Coach Curran,” First I would like to thank the Town of Hanna and the rink staff. I would also like to thank our volunteers for driving to Hanna and helping make this game a big success and last but not least our fans for supporting us. I thought that Canmore played a great first period and if not for our goaltending this game could have been over in the first.  Xavier did his job and in the second and third we played much better and for me that showed us growing as a team.”

The Dragons next game will be at home when they host the Brooks Bandits on Friday, January 8 at 7:30pm at the Drumheller Memorial Arena.
