Strong Win For Dragons On The Road
The Dragons traveled over the snowy tundra to Olds on Friday night to face the eighth place Olds Grizzlys.
The last time these two teams met was in Olds the Dragons won 7-3 and would like that success to continue. It did almost to the same extent.
Drumheller opened up the scoring at 2:16 when Tyson Scott scored his 11th of the year from in front of the net from Markus Boguslavsky and Tyler Kreklewich. The remainder of the period went back and forth until the Dragons added one late. Brady Risk scored his eighth of the season from Dawson Bruneski and Brett Edwards with 52.2 seconds left in the first. Drumheller out shot Olds 15-8.
The second started just like the first when Derrick Budz scores his sixth on the year from Brett Wieschorster and Troy Dudley to make it 3-0 Dragons. Drumheller adds another at 7:14 when Brayden Nicholetts scores his tenth of the season from Tyler Kreklewich and Troy Dudley on the power play. Olds got one back on a fortunate bounce when Jeremy Klessens scored to make it 4-1 Dragons.Things got a bit crazy in the second as an Olds player decided to run Dane Dow. Drumheller was on the power play at the time and it ended up everyone had a partner. Dawson Bruneski ended up taking a fighting major standing up for his goalie. Olds was unable to capitalize. At the end of the second, Dylan Williamson from the Grizzlys was frustrated and took an instigator and fighting penalty to give Drumheller an extended power play in the third.
Midway through the third, Drumheller added to their lead once again as Jordan Taupert had a wide open net to pot his 25th of the year from Brayden Nicholetts and Tyler Kreklewich on the man advantage. Taupert would add another two minutes later from a beautiful feed by Alex Rotundo. Olds tried to make a game of it when Dalton Ossman scored to make it 6-2. The Grizzlys would add another just over thirty seconds later when Jack Berger snapped a quick shot from the slot to beat Dane Dow. Final score was Drumheller 6 and Olds 3.
