On Monday night in front of their hometown crowd the Dragons season came to an early end, losing out in round one to the Canmore Eagles. The Dragons, after a split in Canmore were in the driver’s seat but did not take advantage of their home ice and dropped both games in Drumheller.
Monday's game was do or die for the Dragons and as they stepped onto the ice for the first period it looked as though they were ready to play. In the first period they were in control but were unable to capitalize on their chances and at the end of the first it was tied. Second period action saw the Eagles take advantage of their opportunities and although they had few Canmore made them count. Drumheller would not give up and continued to control most of the game but on this night the Dragons could not find the back of the net. Canmore would take the win and advance to round two.
Coach Curran,” I thought we played hard all night and even though we lost 6-1 I was proud of the boys as they never gave up. I would like to thank our fans this season, our staff, volunteers, security, billets, off ice officials, and ownership for all their support. This was a season that I did not picture in my head and it was quite a learning experience for me personally as well as the players. I believe and know that I will learn from it and the players will also. To the 20's I wish them all the success in their futures and it was a pleasure to coach them.”
