Dragons Sign Former Affiliate for Upcoming Season

The Drumheller Dragons are proud to announce the signing of 1999-born forward William van der Sloot for the 2016-17 season. The 17-year-old from Medicine Hat, AB was affiliated with the Dragons in the 2015-16 season, having played 8 regular season games and one playoff game with the club. In his 9 games with the Dragons last season, van der Sloot tallied 2 goals and 2 assists.

The 6-foot, 187-lb forward played his last two seasons with the Edge School of the CSSHL, scoring 9 goals and adding 9 assists in 35 games in the 2015-16 season.

“When William was affiliated with us last season, he played very well for us and did what was asked of him,” said Brian Curran, Dragons Head Coach and GM. “He plays the game smart and with a lot of skill, particularly in his stick handling and his ability to see the ice and make plays,” added Curran.

van der Sloot is looking forward to the upcoming season in Drumheller. “I am very happy and excited to have committed to the Dragons.” he said. “I would like to thank Coach Curran and the Dragons organization for the opportunity to play with the team this season. The Dragons provided me lot of opportunities to play last year and I enjoyed the high calibre, high tempo play.”

Dragons can see van der Sloot back in action at the Drumheller Memorial Arena on September 9th when the Dragons take on the Lloydminster Bobcats in exhibition play.
