The Drumheller Dragons are proud to announce the signing of 18-year-old defenseman Alexander Leonidas for the 2016-17 season. A native of Calgary, AB, Leonidas played last season for the Calgary Midget AAA Royals where he posted 8 goals and 10 assists in 33 games.
Dragons head coach and GM, Brian Curran, is thrilled about adding the 5'11, 180-lb defenseman to his roster. “Alexander is a very gifted skater and has very strong offensive skills,” he said “His seamless transition from defense to offense is one of the reasons we pursued him for our team this year.”
Leonidas is looking forward to being part of the Dragons organization. “I am really excited to commit to the Drumheller Dragons for this upcoming season,” he commented. “They have a well-established program that has a strong commitment to their player development and winning, as well as getting players to the next level. I am looking forward to beginning my Junior hockey career with this great organization.”
Dragons fans can get a first glimpse of Leonidas on September 9 when the Dragons host the Lloydminster Bobcats in their first home exhibition contest. The Dragons first regular season home game is scheduled for Friday, September 23 vs. the Calgary Mustangs, and will be preceded by the annual Home Opener Tailgate Party.
