The Drumheller Dragons skated to a 5-2 win over the Calgary Mustangs on Friday night in their home opener. The night also saw the team raise the 2013/2014 Southern Division Championship banner.
The Mustangs opened the scoring on a shorthanded goal by Zach McNeil just over 2 minutes into the game but the Dragons would be quick to come back scoring 3 consecutive goals by Ethan James, Mitch Cook and Hunter Mills. The Mustangs would get one back on the powerplay to leave the score 3-2 after the first period.
The second period saw the Dragons dominate the play and the shot clock and build on their lead. Dakota Zaharichuk and Ryan Suchorab did the scoring in the period to take a 5-2 lead into the third period. The score would remain the same through the third and secure the win for the Dragons. Curtis Skip made 19 saves for his second straight win.
The Dragons next action is Tuesday night at home where they will look for a third straight win as they take on the Okotoks Oilers. The game is a 7:00 start.
