Drumheller Dragons were on the road again last night playing the Okotoks Oilers ending in a Dragons victory. The Oilers are ahead in the standings and have had a good start to the season which makes this win another step in the right direction for the Dragons who has been struggling on the road.
Drumheller came out strong in the first five minutes of the game but it would be the Oilers who would strike first at 6:22, but just a minute later defenceman Isaac Schacher would score at 7:07 and tie the game ending the period 1-1.
Second period saw a better game as both teams had their scoring chances but it would be the Dragons Ryan Chynoweth who would score the lone goal giving the Dragons a 2-1 lead after the second.
Chynoweth goal was crucial for the team. The Oilers continued pressure almost allowed a goal just seconds earlier but with Johnny Hogue’s strong play in net, along with a timely turnover by the Oilers the momentum shifted in favour of the Dragons.
The 3rd period was the Dragons best of the game and with 5:40 gone in the period Matt Muzyka would score to give Drumheller a 3-1 lead. The Oilers playing with a lot of heart would come back and score at 14:14 on a power play pulling within one to make it 3-2.
The teams would exchange scoring chances and at 16:44 Isaac Schacher would score his second of the game on a Dragons power play resulting in a 4-2 final.
Coach Curran, “We are certainly playing better in our last several games and the hard work the boys are putting in at practice is starting to pay off. However I think the boys and the staff also realize that we can be a much better team but the team is heading in the right direction. We played a young hockey club that works very hard and have had good results this season and they will be tough for anyone this season. We now are also starting to work much harder and I look forward to seeing what these boys will do as we continue to improve.”
Dragons “face-off” at home tonight against the Olds Grizzlys. Puck drops at 7:30pm.
