Drumheller, AB: From start to finish, Ryan Henderson was the Dragons best defenceman all year long. After a tremendous season with the club that saw him get nominated for the AJHL Top Defenceman Award and have his name engraved as the Dragons Defenceman of the Year Award, it was no surprise that NCAA Division I teams were vying for his services. This past weekend, Ryan Henderson officially announced his commitment to play division one hockey at Bemidji State University!
Henderson, who is a native of Lethbridge, is a tremendous two-way defenceman with great skating ability. This season he broke out offensively as he produced 33 points in 54 games played during the regular season and 6 points in 9 games played during the playoffs. He plays big minutes on the Dragons top powerplay and penalty kill units, often getting matched with the opposing teams top lines. Henderson will make the jump to NCAA hockey next season, after spending the previous two seasons with the Dragons.
Bemidji State University is located in Minnesota and competes in the NSIC Conference. Their 3rd leading scorer from this past season was also former Dragon, Eric Martin! Martin had played with the Dragons from 2018-2020, having recorded 108 points during his time with the team.
We would like to congratulate Ryan Henderson and his family on this tremendous accomplishment and wish him the best of luck next season!
