The Dragons took to the ice on Friday night at the Memorial Arena to face off against the Whitecourt Wolverines.
The last time these two teams faced each other was in Whitecourt on October 22 where the Dragons fell 4-2 to the Wolverines. Drumheller wanted to have a better showing in front of their 569 fans and they did just that.
Drumheller opened up the scoring early in the first on the power play when Brady Risk scored his seventh of the season from Slater Dykema and Dawson Bruneski. The Dragons added to their lead before the midway point of the period when Alex Rotundo scored his fifth goal in three games from Jordan Taupert. The period ended with Drumheller leading 2-0 and out shooting Whitecourt 14-9.
Drumheller didn't let up in the second. At 2:11, Jordan Taupert scored his 20th on the year, assisted from Alex Rotundo, to make it 3-0 Dragons. Things got a little heated after the Dragons third goal as Tyson Scott dropped the gloves with Yannik Bertrand. Both fighters got some good shots in and I would say it was just a good fight. The Wolverines hoped to build some momentum from the fight but could not. Drumheller added to their lead with 3:34 left in the period when Jordan Taupert scored one of the nicest goals of the year on the power play. Assists would go to Alex Rotundo and Bradley Stonnell. Whitecourt got their only goal of the game with 2:07 left in the second when Matthew Monk scored to make it 4-1 Drumheller.
Both teams battled in the third but the goaltenders did their jobs and kept the puck out. The only goal scored in the period was a big one for the Dragons. Jordan Taupert scored his hat-trick goal from Alex Rotundo and Tyler Kreklewich to make the final score 5-1. Jordan Taupert had a four point night (3G, 1A) and Alex Rotundo had a four point night (1G, 3A). Drumheller out shot Whitecourt in the game 37-23.
