March 5th,2021: The Drumheller Dragons Hockey Club is excited to announce new changes to the front office staff with Connor Boyd being named Business Manager for the club, while Dustin Edwards has moved to Director, Sports & Entertainment with the Dragons & the Canalta Family of Companies.
Connor Boyd, who played for the Dragons from 2014 to 2016, is quite excited to be able to rejoin the team. “I’m absolutely thrilled. From my playing years back in 2014-16, I grew to absolutely love the community and now to be able to be back in Drumheller, this time as the Business Manager for the Drumheller Dragons. Being able to utilize my education to help the Dragons and to help the community as well, I’m absolutely thrilled for it.”
Boyd has been looking to get back into the sport and reached out to the Dragons to see if there would be any opportunities. “I reached out to Kevin (Hasselberg Head Coach and GM of the Drumheller Dragons) in the summer to kind of get back involved with hockey. I wanted to be back with the Dragons or involved in hockey in some capacity. My dreams coming out of school was to be involved in the business operations of a hockey team but given that I had the playing experience, I thought my best my best foot in the door through scouting. I reached out to Kevin and one thing led to another and here we are today.”
As for Dustin Edwards, he will be remaining with the Dragons albeit in a different position. “I’m super excited to be taking on the role of Director of Sports and Entertainment for the Canalta family of companies and the Dragons. I look forward to be overseeing the business operations and work on this growing hockey development program that the Dragons have established this past year. We have accomplished some great things on and off the ice the past 3 years and have assembled a first-class organization to work alongside.”
With the changes, Boyd will be involved in the day-to-day business operations of the team, be it marketing, ticketing, volunteers, community involvement. Edwards will continue to oversee the business operations and hockey development with the team and focus on creating new sports and entertainment opportunities with Canalta.
The Dragons are in preparations for the restart of their season, coming on March 12 in Camrose against the Kodiaks.
