Jeff Hendricks Memorial Scholarship

Hockey to Jeff

Jeff Hendricks loved and experienced the sport of hockey from many aspects, including player, coach, scout, instructor and spectator. Hockey was more than just a sport to him.  Hockey was full of life lessons he would instill in his daughters and players; teaching players to be accountable to your teammates and building strong relationships on and off the ice.  Hockey, according to Jeff, also builds quality character traits: respect, determination, sacrifice, pride. All these traits were a designated measure of one’s heart. And all these characteristics could potentially, not only develop a player into something greater than skill alone could provide, but also influence the type of person that they would become.
Jeff believed that you didn’t need to be the most skilled player to be a leader on the team. And for that matter, that you didn’t need to be the most skilled team to be the best team.  As a player and a coach Jeff proved time and time again, that heart was the biggest factor for success in hockey and in life.

“The fact that he is remembered for the heart he gave 25 years ago is evidence enough of the accomplishments he had made.”

In 1980-1981 Jeff Hendricks played hockey in Drumheller for the Jr. A. Falcons. During this season he was fifth in the league for total points with 89, tenth in the league for goals with 29 and second in assists with 60. Total PIM’s the same year was190. Jeff’s passion was the game of hockey. He played the game, coached and scouted. On February 6th 2006, Jeff passed away at the age of 45.

“As a coach, my Dad used to ask for effort from all of his players, what an individual lacked in skill he could make up for in heart.”
