The Drumheller Dragons traveled to Sherwood Park to play the Crusaders last night hoping for their third straight win. The Crusaders however, who some believe will push to challenge for the North title, were able to shut-out the Dragons and take the win.
In the first period the Dragons come out strong and within 7-9 minutes had several key scoring chances but were unable to turn the red light on. The Crusaders would pick their game up after that and the first period would end in a draw with both teams unable to score.
Second period was a different story as Sherwood Park would pick up the pace and Drumheller would make some crucial mistakes in their zone. This would cost the Dragons and at the end of the second the Crusaders would lead 3-0.
For the third period the Dragons needed to come out strong but less than 1 minute in the Crusaders would score to make it 4-0. The Dragons did not give up and had several opportunities but were unable to score and Sherwood Park would take the win 4-0.
Coach Curran,” I thought we came out fairly decent and had a couple great chances but their goalie made some big saves early on. Sherwood Park is a good team and they picked their game up and certainly deserved the win. We made some big mistakes in our zone and against good teams they will expose you. We did have some great scoring chances but we need to accept that our team needs to be strong in all zones and when we are we can play with anyone.”
