Dragons Lose Tough One

Game of Missed Opportunities

The Drumheller Dragons and the Canmore Eagles faced off last night in Drumheller for RBC Night in front of a great crowd. It was an unfortunate end to their busy weekend with a 3-1 loss. The game for the Dragons was one of several key chances missed at critical times which may have played a huge roll in the outcome. However the Dragons continued to play hard and with heart in front of fans and family alike.

The Eagles came out strong in the first period and had the Dragons back on their heels but once again goaltender Jonny Hogue would be up to the task.  The Dragons had three great chances in the first but Canmore would score first to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Second period action saw a different Dragons team who came out very strong and on the power play Clint Filbrandt scored tying the game at one a piece. The Canmore Eagles penalty killing units and goaltender were crucial in the second holding off the Dragons on their power plays but capitalizing on their own and scoring to make it a 2-1 lead after two periods of action.

The third period was the Dragons best; they controlled much of the play and once again had several great scoring opportunities. Canmore's goalie made several key saves with traffic in front of him as the Dragons continued to keep the pressure on. Canmore would push back and Jonny Hogue made a great save to keep it 2-1. With the game winding down the Dragons pulled their goalie giving them an extra man in the offensive zone. Regrettably Drumheller would lose the draw and the Eagles would score on an empty net to make it 3-1 for Canmore.

Coach Curran” I thought it was a good game. Unfortunately in the first the Eagles were skating and we were sitting back but at the end of the day we had a great couple of chances that we didn’t take advantage of. In the second and third we just got better and had several good chances but the Eagles penalty killing units did a great job. We didn't win but I see this team heading in the right direction and at this moment I am very encouraged as we move forward.”

“On behalf of myself and the organization I would like to thank all the parents for attending this weekend and all those who helped make it a success.”
