Dragons Down But Not Out

In a season where the Dragons have faced their share of injuries, it was a weekend where other than Ethan James (Leg) the Dragons would finally have most of their roster back on the ice!

“Although it was a tough weekend it was good to see our line up back together,” said Brian Curran (Coach/GM), “certainly not the results I wanted to see but there were a lot of positives but some work still remaining to be done and we will get there.”

The first game would see the Dragons host the Canmore Eagles!

Both teams came out strong in a very fast paced game. It would be the Eagles that would score first and lead 1-0 at the end of the first.

In the second period both teams would come out strong but this would be a game of costly turnovers by the Dragons and at the end of the second it would be 4-0.

Third period saw the Dragons come at the Eagles with everything they had but strong goaltending by the Eagles goaltender would keep the Dragons off the board and the Eagles would score one more to skate away with a 5-0 win.

Late Surge By Dragons Comes Up Short!

In a very tough match up against the Okotoks Oilers the Dragons needed to come out strong and they did in the first 10 minutes. The Dragons would get on the board first which seemed to energize the players and the play would favor the Dragons. However Okotoks would change that as they scored on the PP twice to take a 2-1 lead after the first period and it was clear to see the Dragons were back on their heels.

In the second Okotoks would continue to apply the pressure and once again costly turnovers and bad clearings on the PK from the Dragons would see the Oilers take a 5-2 lead going into the third.

Third period action saw the Dragons come out strong and dominate the third period and it looked like for a moment they might just pull it off. The Dragons, scoring 2 in the third making it a 5-4 game, had several chances to tie the game but it would be the Oilers goaltender who has had a great season stand tall and that is as close as the Dragons would come.

Coach Curran said ” It's the little details we have to get back to and play with more desperation! With 5 games remaining I am very confident that we will be ready as we enter the playoffs but this is a time where we must work hard and stay positive. We know what we need to do!”
