Dragons Drop 2 on the Road -Weekend Recap

The Drumheller Dragon played their first two road games this weekend following their first 3 regular season games at home. The Dragons would drop both games, first against the Brook Bandits on Friday in which Brooks would score 5 goals in the first period. Drumheller would come out stronger in the second and the third in a penalty filled game continuing the rivalry between the two teams.  Final score 7-1.

” I was disappointed to see that after several meetings  our team was not prepared to play against Brooks tonight, “said Brian Curran,  “I challenged our team to play with intensity, passion and raising our compete level that  we lacked the first three games of the season. Again we did not have that in the first period of play. On a positive note I challenged them again between the first and second period and it was good to see the boys raise their bar and set up and compete. It’s a start in the right direction.”

Drumheller would face Canmore in their second road game of the weekend on Saturday. The Dragons would come out strong in the first period and take the lead several minutes into the game however it would be short lived. Canmore would quickly score 2 goals, 9 seconds apart to take the lead. The period would end 2-1.

The Eagles would score 4 more goals in the second due to sloppy defensive zone coverage, however the Dragons would have 1 goal leaving the end of period score 6-2.
In the third period Drumheller would have another goal during a pp, final score 6-3 in favor of Canmore Eagles.

“I thought in the first period we played much freer, our hands weren’t tight, we weren’t over thinking and we were playing with passion. Unfortunately a couple of breakdowns would take the momentum away from us and although we played hard we had several bad bounces go against us. I thought we played a much better third period in all areas of the game but it is difficult to come back from a 4 goal deficit. We have a lot of work to do but I still believe very much in these young men and that they will be a successful team.”  Coach Curran.

Next Game:  The Drumheller Dragons will host the Canmore in Friday, September 25 at 7:30pm.
