Dragons Even Series With Grizzlys

FROM DRUMHELLER ONLINE- JASON BLANKE

TUES, MARCH 3RD- The playoffs are here and the Drumheller Dragons start their trek to the Centennial Cup Championship against the Olds Grizzlys.

Game one of the series was in the valley on Sunday afternoon.  The Grizzlys came prepared and played a strong game against Drumheller.  The Dragons could not say the same.  Olds would open the scoring in the first period on a goal by Payton McDonald-Corea.  Drumheller would tie the game on the power play with a goal by Brady Risk (1) to end the period tied 1-1.  The Grizzlys would score the only goal of the second at 6:27 when Hoon Kim got one past Daniel Allin to give Olds the lead 2-1 after two.  Olds would add a power play and empty net goal in the third period to make the final 4-1 for Olds and give them a one game to none series lead.

Drumheller would need to right the wrongs from Sunday and they did just that.  The captain for the Dragons, Derrick Budz (1) would open the scoring on the power play early in the game to try to take control.  The first period would end with Drumheller leading 1-0.  In the second, the Dragons would score again on the man advantage when Kaden Hanas (1) scored to make it 2-0 Drumheller, Eric Martin (1) would add another on a give away by the Grizzlys to make it 3-0.  Before the end of the second, Drumheller would capitalize on another power play with a goal by Brady Risk (2).  It was a dominant period by Drumheller, limiting Olds time in the offensive zone and only allowing 9 shots on goal after two periods.  In the third, Drumheller would again control the period only allowing Olds 5 shots on Daniel Allin.  They would also end the scoring with another power play marker by Eric Martin (2), his second goal of the night, to make the final 5-0 in Drumheller’s favour.

The series is not tied at one game a piece heading into Olds on Wednesday night for game three and Thursday night for game four.  Both of those games will be on Real Country 910 with the Pro Plan Financial Pregame show starting at 6:45 pm with Jason Blanke and Dustin Edwards.

Tickets for GAME 5 of the series now on sale for Saturday, March 7th- 7:30pm in Drumheller.
