Dragons Make Additions at Deadline

Drumheller, AB: It was an eventful past couple of weeks for the Drumheller Dragons and Head Coach/GM Kevin Hasselberg as the team made a number of additions to bolster the roster for the second half of the AJHL season.

The transactions started just before the holiday break as the Dragons added a familiar face back to the lineup in Kai Matthew. Kai played for the Dragons in the previous two seasons and put up excellent numbers. The highly skilled forward picked up right where he left off as he has 2 points in his first 3 games back with the Dragons.

The Dragons then set their sights on the BCHL, where they were able to sign three players who were wanting to rejoin Hockey Canada and the sanctioned side of junior hockey. Brec Christenson was signed from the Sherwood Park Crusaders where he had 2 points in 19 games played. The power forward plays with a ton of intensity and edge and has a great skillset to add. Christenson is currently committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at Minnesota State University. Second was Tristan Payne who was signed from the Blackfalds Bulldogs. Payne is a dynamic two-way defenceman who but up 34 points in 28 games played as the captain of the Vancouver NW Hawks U18 AAA team in 2023-24. Tristan had produced 2 points in 24 games played with the Bulldogs this season. Lastly, the Dragons signed forward Logan Peskett from the Blackfalds Bulldogs. Peskett has spent most of the season up with the Regina Pats of the WHL where he had 6 points in 15 games played. All three players will be immediate impact players for the Dragons.

On the trade front, the Dragons made three moves on deadline day, which was January 10th. They first moved Jarred Fiest to the Thunder Bay North Stars of the SIJHL and then they traded Louis Nadeau and Devon Winder to the Melville Millionaires of the SJHL, both trades were for future considerations. We would like to thank Jarred, Louis, and Devon for their dedication and commitment to the Dragons organization over the past season! The last move of the deadline was adding defenceman Tristan Serrao from the Humboldt Broncos in exchange for future considerations. Serrao, who is a Calgary native, has produced 17 points and 314 penalty minutes in 82 SJHL career games. The big, rugged defenceman will be a key add for the Dragons heading into the second half of the season.

The Dragons are back in action at home on January 24th and 26th as they welcome the Devon Xtreme and Camrose Kodiaks to the Memorial Arena. You can get your tickets at tickets.drumhellerdragons.ca!
