Drumheller, AB: The Dragons are excited to announce that rookie goaltender, Matthew Kondro, has taken home AJHL Defensive Player of the Week honours!
The 2007 born goaltender from St. Albert has had a tremendous rookie campaign with the Dragons, seeing him post a 11-4-2 record with a 2.93 goals against average and a .908 save percentage. Kondro had spent two weeks in January with the Red Deer Rebels while being called up due to an injury. After he returned to the Dragons, he saw a large increase in playing time as starter Sean Cootes went down with an injury.
This past week, Kondro stopped 60 of 61 shots (.984 save percentage) in wins over the Canmore Eagles and Lloydminster Bobcats, while also picking up his first career shutout! He also helped the Dragons extend their current win streak to 6 games!
We would like to congratulate Matthew on this great accomplishment! You can catch him in action tonight against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons as he gets the nod in net!
