Dragons Week in Review – Coach Oly’s Recap – March 3-9, 2017

Written by Coach Oly

We were fortunate enough to have a little break before our last regular season game against Olds on March 4th.  We were able to have some good high tempo practices with players back in the lineup.  During the game vs. Olds, Yauheni Astrouski opened up the scoring with some hard work in front of the net (from Campbell and Fasegha).  Olds answered back immediately to tie it up.  A goal from Cody Young assisted by Taupert and Stonnell gave us the lead at the end of the first period.

Olds took advantage of a Power Play early in the second period and tied the game up. We saw goals from Patenaude (assisted by Kreklewich and Misskey) and from Glasman, our Affiliate Player, on the Power Play (assisted by Young and Taupert) in the second period to take a 4-2 lead. Olds kept the pressure on with a Power Play goal to make it a 4-3 game at the end of the second.

Play was back and forth to start the 3rd period.  Taupert put us ahead 5-3 with a Power Play goal from Kartusch.  We ended the game with an empty net goal from Cody Young (assisted by Taupert).  It was a great game for the Dragons as we were able to gain and maintain the lead in this game.  We were able to put together some of the skills we worked on during the week to gain offensive pressure.  It was a great win and one the team needed to prepare for playoffs.
