Kartusch Leads Dragons Past Canucks

The Drumheller Dragons were back in action on Saturday at home against the Calgary Canucks.
Drumheller was coming off a tough loss at home last night against the Okotoks Oilers where they were shut out.  Calgary was also coming off a loss to the Camrose Kodiaks on Friday night. One of these teams was going to get a win tonight and both fought hard to do so.

Drumheller came out strong in the first with some great opportunities to score but could not solve the post. Three shots early in the period went off the iron to keep the game scoreless. Calgary got on the board with just over 5 minutes left in the period when Josh Giacomin scored from Zach Russell and Brody Medeiros. The Canucks added to their lead with 1:33 left when Cooper Johnson scored from Michael Clarke and Jaxon Steele. Calgary had control of the game leading 2-0 and out shooting Drumheller 15-7.

Drumheller turned the tides in the second. Early in the period Andrew Kartusch scored his 7th of the season from Derrick Budz and Brady Risk to make it 2-1 Canucks. The Dragons tied it up just over 2 minutes later when Brady Risk (6) scored from Derrick Budz and Slater Dykema. Calgary got called for goaltender interference and scored while short-handed. Josh Giacomin scored his second of the game from Mark Drohan. On that same penalty, Drumheller got a power play goal to tie the game. Tyson Scott scored his 6th of the season from Brett Edwards and Andrew Kartusch. Tie game after two periods 3-3 with the Canucks continuing to out shoot the Dragons 26-18.

Drumheller took their first lead of the game midway through the third when Tyson Scott (7) scored his second of the hockey game on the power play from Andrew Kartusch and Brady Risk. The Dragons sealed the deal with 4:32 left in the game when Derrick Budz scored his third of the year from Andrew Kartusch. Drumheller out shot Calgary 9-3 in the period but the Canucks out shot Drumheller in the game 29-27.

It was a big game for many of the Dragons. Andrew Kartusch had four points on the night. Tyson Scott scored two goals. Derrick Budz and Brady Risk both had a goal and two assists. A great home win with 534 fans in the seats cheering them on.
