Trouble on the Road Comes to an End

Dragons Win in Shootout

The Drumheller Dragon took the ice in Olds last night to face off against the Grizzlys.  The past several seasons has shown that the series between these two teams has been very spirted. The Dragons 4-3 win in a shoot-out couldn’t have come at a better time, as Drumheller have had trouble on the road lately, giving them their second win on the road this season.

The Dragons came out quick in the first period with Matt Muzyka scoring less than 2 minutes into the game.  Drumheller would have several great chances to extend the score however the Olds young goalie would have a great night in the net and left the Dragons scratching their heads. Olds Grizzlys scored 2 goals in the first ending the period 2-1 for the Grizzlys.

Second period action was much like the first however the Dragons would score two goals by Wade Wylie and Levi Wunder to take the lead 3-2. Once again play would be controlled by the Dragons but the Olds goalie made several curical saves that would be key as the Grizzlys would score on a power play ending the second period 3-3.

Olds took the ice strong in the third period and now it was Jonny Hogue who would have to make several key saves. No gaols by either team would led to OT.

Overtime would primarily be dominated by the Dragons but with19 seconds left the Grizzlys breakaway would be unsuccessful, thanks to Jonny Hogue, leading the teams into a shoot-out.

In the shoot-out it would be Evan Rochowiak that would score the game winner and the Dragons who have been playing better as of late would win back to back games and the season is back to 8-8-1.

Coach Curran “It was good to see us get the win and we certainly had our chances tonight. Olds goalie made a lot of key saves in the first two periods, as the score could have been a little different after two periods. We have been improving over the last few games which is a positive and I would like to see us pick it up a lot more. The players are starting to be much more accountable and that is a good start to where we want to go.”

Next Game: Drumheller Dragons travel to Okotoks to play the Oilers Friday, October 30 at 7:00pm.
