Drumheller, AB: The Dragons have kicked off week one of the AJHL Regular Season and after two games, have scored more goals than any other team in the league. Leading the way has been a pair of Dragons forwards who both have 5 points through two games played. This has been recognized by the AJHL, as Josh Diegel took home the AJHL Player of the Week Award and Ellis Mieyette has been named the AJHL Rookie of the Week!
Diegel, who is in his second year with the Dragons, put up 3 points in the Dragons 9-4 win over the Olds Grizzlys opening night and then followed that with a 2 point night during the Dragons home opener. So far, he has 3 goals and 5 points through two games to kick off the 2024-2025 campaign and is leading the AJHL in points. Last season, Diegel had 10 points in 45 games played so he is already on pace to blow by that point total for this season.
Mieyette, who hails from Lumsden, SK, has also put up 5 points through his first 2 games played in Dragons colours. This was an easy nod to be named the AJHL Rookie of the Week. Last season, Mieyette played for the Regina Pat Canadians of the Saskatchewan U18 AAA league where he produced 51 points in 44 games played.
Both Ellis and Josh play on the same line, along rookie Easton Daneault, and they have had early chemistry making them one of the most dangerous and productive lines in the league. You can catch them back in action this upcoming Friday as the Dragons welcome the Lloydminster Bobcats to the Memorial Arena. You can get your tickets now at tickets.drumhellerdragons.ca!
