Dragons Fall Short in Game Two

Game two of the Inter Pipeline AJHL South Division Semi-final went on Saturday night in Brooks.

Drumheller came into the game already down one game to none in the series and were hoping for a better fate tonight. It just was not in the cards.

Brooks came out strong to start the game and opened the scoring at 6:53 when Dennis Cesana scored his first of the playoffs from Brandon Scanlin.  The Bandits added to their lead three minutes later when Connor Jean scored his second of the post season to make it 2-0 Brooks. Drumheller got on the board with 4:56 left in the period when Jordan Taupert shot from close in, got his own rebound, and tucked it behind Bandits goalie Mitch Benson. Those were the first two shots on goal for the period for Drumheller as Brooks out shot Drumheller 15-2.

The second did not start much better for the Dragons. Drumheller was killing off a boarding penalty from the first period and with one second left, Connor Jean from the Bandits scored his second of the night to make it 3-1 Brooks 1:37 in. The Bandits would add one more three minutes later when PA Martineau scored. Drumheller changed goaltenders after the fourth goal as Dane Dow was switched for Hunter Virostek. That seemed to wake up the Dragons and Slater Dykema scored his fourth of the playoffs from Carson Kurylo and Derrick Budz at 6:04, to make it 4-2 Brooks.

Drumheller had more pressure in the third but continued to be stymied by Brooks goaltender Mitch Benson. The Bandits would score their fifth goal of the game at 7:18 when PA Martineau scored his second of the night.  Drumheller would answer 32 seconds later when Troy Dudley got a great pass from Brett Edwards and Brady Risk. The final score would be 5-3 Brooks. The Bandits now lead the best of seven series 2 games to none.
