Dragons Have Wild Shootout Weekend!

The Drumheller Dragons played two games this weekend in which both games went to a shootout.

On Friday, Dragons hosted the Calgary Canucks in a hard fought battle. With every point counting, the Dragons were victorious in a 3-2 win over the Canucks.

The first period saw several scoring chances between both these teams, but it would be the Dragons who at the end of the first would lead 1-0 on a goal by Tristan Thompson.

In the second period Drumheller would come out strong and if not for strong goaltending by the Canucks goalie ( Cooper ) the Dragons would have been up by more than 1. The second period ended with Drumheller leading 2-1 with Dakota Zaharichuk scoring the go-ahead goal.

in the third period, both teams would come out strong but on a PP the Canucks would tie the game at two.
Curtis Skip, after a collision on the Canucks tying goal,  would have to leave the game and Johnny Hogue would come in for the remainder.

Calgary came out strong and Hogue came up with some key saves as the Canucks would have a 5 on 3 PP.
Dragons penalty killers and Hogue killed off the penalties and the game would go to OT.

Nothing was solved in OT and it would take a shoot out to determine the winner. The first 3 shooters for both teams scored and on the Dragons 4th shooter (Dakota Zaharichuk) put the Dragons up 4-3 and that's how it would end as the Canucks 4th shooter was unable to score.

The second game of the weekend was a matinee vs the 2nd place Lloydminster Bobcats. It was another wild one!

The Bobcats would come out strong and had the Dragons a little on there heels but the Dragons fought back and got on the board first on a goal by Scott Ivey. The 1-0 lead would not last long as the Bobcats, on a goal that seemed to be kicked in was over turned, would tie the game at 1.
The Bobcatsthen took the lead scoring on the PP and take a 2-1 lead after the first.

In the second period, both teams battled hard and it looked like the Bobcats would go up 3-1 but a goalie interference call would disallowed the goal.

The Dragons would tie the game on a goal but Scott Ivey, his second of the night.

Third period was fast paced and the Dragons took the lead on a goal by Tristan Thompson on a great pas by Mitch Cook. The two teams continuted to battle hard butt the Bobcats would tie the game on a late PowerPlay and send it in to OT. The game looked like it would end as Dakota Zaharichuk made a great play beating the Bobcats defenceman but the Bobcats goalie came up with a great save and the game would head to a shootout for a second straight game. However, on this afternoon, luck was not on the Dragons side as they lost the shootout and the game ended 4-3.

The next home game will be January 17th versus the first place Spruce Grove in a re-match of the A.J.H.L finals. The game will be at 7:30 with a guaranteed 50/50 of $1000.
