Dragons Playoffs in Review – Coach Oly’s Recap – Round 1, Game 5

Written by Coach Oly

Well the final Game 5 of the series took place last night in Calgary.  It was a tough loss but a good fight through the series.  Calgary opened the scoring late in the first period when McConnell got an even strength goal for the 1-0 lead.  We finished the 1st period 1-0.  Coby Mack stung early in the 2nd period for the 2-0 lead.   Dragons battled hard and Cody Young had a Power Play goal late in the 2nd period, assisted by Jordan Evans, to send us off the ice 2-1.

We started the 3rd period strong but McConnell beat us again for another goal early in the period.  Kreklewich responded with a goal, assisted again by Jordan Evans, to make it a 3-2 lead for Canucks.  Dragons battled hard but McConnell scored again a little over midway through the period to take a 4-2 lead.  Williamson, on an Empty Net, scored the final goal with less than 2 minutes left in the period ending with a 5-2 final.

On behalf of the players and coaches, I want to thank all of our fans and volunteers for a great season.  Also, thanks to all of our parents and billet families for their support throughout the year.  We fought hard to extend our season, I couldn’t be more proud of this group of young men.  We had one of the toughest schedules since the holiday break as far as the teams we played, the number of games on the road and we were a team riddled with injuries the majority of the remaining regular season this year.  It was tough to gain any consistency as a team with a rotating lineup.  Nevertheless, these boys never quit. They fought hard this series to take the Canucks to five games despite the odds being against them.  I hope they are equally proud of their efforts and all they faced and overcame.
