The Drumheller Dragons, on a tough road trip to Fort McMurray for an 8 pm start Saturday night and then off to Bonnyville for a Sunday 2pm game, came away with 2 big wins and a 4 point weekend.
Game one saw the Dragons come out with a very fast start in the first 10 minutes and get on the board early to take a 1-0 lead. The period would end 1-0!
The second period would see the Baron's come out strong and tie the game on a nice 2 on 1 play. Johnny Hogue would have a very strong game and it would be the Dragons who would score a nice PP goal to make it 2-1. Play would go back and forth but the score at the end of the second would stay at 2-1 for the Dragons.
Third period the Dragons in a very tight game played by both teams would again score on the PP to make it 3-1. The Barons, on a PP, would cut the lead to 3-2 but that would be all they would get as the team and Johnny Hogue would hold the fort and the Dragons would come away with 2 points and a very solid effort.
Missing for the Dragons Ethan James, (leg injury) Curtis Skip, (upper body injury) and Tristan Thompson and Craig Ofner ( both had prep classes in Calgary for there upcoming exams ).
Great to see the Dragons organization and staff put their education first!!
Can You Say Another Shoot- Out!!
It seems to be the month of Shoot Outs for the Dragons as they have had 4 out of their last 6 games go to Shoot outs. Its been great to see the team be in every game and it certainly has felt like playoff hockey as of late with so many teams fighting for position in the South. The Dragons would play the very hard- working Pontiacs in an afternoon game.
In the first 2 meeting both teams would need extra time or a shoot- out to determine a winner and it was the Pontiacs who won the first 2 meetings.
So why not!! the Dragons would make it a third game and it would take again another shoot-out to determine the winner
.
First period saw the Dragons once again come out strong but it would be the Pontiacs who would lead 1-0 at the end of the first.
Second period saw the Dragons tie the game at 1 a piece but would not last long as Bonnyville would score soon after to make it 2-1.
Third period saw several great scoring chances for both teams and both goalies held their own until the Dragons would tie the game and off to OT again these 2 teams would go. 3on 3 in OT would decide nothing and a Shoot -out again was needed but this time, behind great goaltending and a great move by Wyatt Noskey, the Dragons would earn the 3-2 victory!!!
The next home game for the Dragons will be Friday, January 30th against the Olds Grizzly's at 7:30 pm.
