Dragons Win Big Versus Okotoks

Dragons win to finish off 2014!

The Drumheller Dragons played host to the Okotoks Oilers on Monday night in front of 740 fans at the Memorial Arena in Drumheller.  The divisional matchup was a pivotal one, as the Dragons were 5 points back of the Oilers for 3rd in the South Division. Santa was also in attendance and was available for pictures with the kids prior to the game.

The Dragons opened the scoring in the first period on the powerplay with a goal by Connor Duncan. The Oilers were quick to respond just 26 seconds later on a goal by Trey Degraaf to leave the game tied at 1 after the first period.

The second period was fast-paced and physical with chances at both ends. Clint Filbrandt would put the Dragons ahead 2-1 with his 7th goal of the season on a great setup by Jacob Schofield. Then, with just 14 seconds remaining in the period, Mitch Cook would score on a nice give-and-go play with Filbrandt to put the Dragons up 3-1 after 2.

In the 3rd period, the Oilers would control the shot clock outshooting the Dragons 16-8 but they could not beat Jonny Houge who was outstanding in goal stopping 40 of 41 shots with some acrobatic saves. Keaton Holinaty would round off the scoring for the Dragons with just over 5 minutes left in the game for a final of 4-1.

The next action for the Dragons is the Jan 2nd/3rd weekend as they have a home and home series with the rival Brooks Bandits.

The Dragons organization would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
