Drumheller, AB: November 3, 2017 – The Drumheller Dragons are very pleased to announce that 2001 born forward Brett Wieschorster has committed to the University of Vermont. The Catamounts compete in the NCAA Hockey East Conference located in Burlington Vermont.
Wieschorster, from Sherwood Park AB is the youngest player on the Dragons roster who stands at 6’2” and 195 lbs. The young power forward has played in 18 games and contributed 1 goal, 6 assists and 24 minutes in penalties. Wieschorster was a 5th round draft pick of the Kootenay Ice in the Western Hockey League.
The development path of Wieschorster stems from the Sherwood Park Minor Hockey System. Last season with the Sherwood Park Squires of the Minor Midget AAA League, Brett recorded 47 points in 34 games played. That included scoring 26 goals during regular season play and adding 4 points in 3 games played during the post season. The season before, Brett was a key contributor with the Bantam AAA Flyers in Sherwood Park contributing 67 points in 46 games played.
“Brett left a huge impression with our staff during camps leading up to the 2017/18 season,” said Head Coach and General Manager Kevin Hasselberg. “His enthusiasm and determination to have the puck convinced us he was ready for Junior Hockey at 16. His commitment off ice and his work ethic in practices will have him prepared for his next journey in College Hockey. We couldn’t be happier for such a humble kid who loves the game.”
The entire Drumheller Dragons organization would like to congratulate Brett and his family on his Academic and Athletic commitment to the University of Vermont. Brett is the first Dragon from the 2017/18 season to make a post-secondary commitment to College Hockey.
